BRIXTON
COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The Constitution
for the Brixton Community Association dated 6th July 1989 outlines its purpose
as 'to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of BRIXTON in the County of
Devon and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation,
race or political or religious or other opinions by associating organisations
in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest
of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object
of improving conditions of life for the said inhabitants'.
The Constitution
outlines its powers as to ' bring together in conference representatives of
voluntary organisations, Government Departments, statutory authorities and
individuals; and to arrange and provide for either alone or with others the
holding of exhibitions, meetings, lectures, classes seminars and training
courses and all forms of recreational and other leisure time activities'.
Membership is open
to any individual over the age of 18 those under the age of 18 can join the
Association as Junior Members. Groups and organisations which support the
objectives of the Brixton Community Association can be affiliated to the Association.
This is subject to an annual subscription. Brixton Community Association is
registered with the Charity Commission.
Brixton Community
Association consists of a General Committee of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer
plus representatives of each Affiliated Group, the Statutory Authority, the
Head Teacher of St Mary's Church of England School and individuals. The General
Committee is required by the Constitution to meet at least 4 times a year.
Dates of meetings are published in the Parish Magazine. A Management Committee
is responsible for the day to day business of the Association including the
booking of the Community Room and the School Hall.
