The New Play Space at Woodland Drive is on its way!
The Friends of Brixton Play Spaces, working closely with Tor Homes, is delighted to report that the refurbishment of Woodland Drive play space is well underway. Following local consultations and exhibitions in the old park and at the school, a design was agreed. Wicksteed Playscapes then won the bid to build the new play space to replace the old one. Following the successful application to the Community Spaces Fund from the Big Lottery and a very generous contribution from Tor Homes who own the site, the £75,000 new play space is now rising up from the ground. Soon the 6 metre Space Net and steel tube slide will be fixed in place, alongside the seating area for young people and swings for all ages. This will be an exciting and challenging space where children and young people can safely play and socialise.
As part of the Brixton Play Trial, this second play space for all the community follows on from the successful opening of BrixStix earlier in the summer. FoBPS will again ask local children to name this new play space, with a Grand Opening planned for its completion in the coming month. A community planting event is also planned for the autumn and further elements of the play trail added throughout the village.
It is really rewarding to see the hard work of the Brixton community deliver great improvements to our village, and we are especially grateful for the support of Tor Homes in helping us to achieve great things for all the community. We look forward to seeing you at the opening!
