THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE FRIENDS OF BRIXTON PLAY TRAIL

The new play space on Woodland Drive is now open and has been named SILVERWOOD play space. There was a fabulous turn out of over 100 people at the launch event on Saturday the 3rd December. Jamie (celebrating his 7th birthday) and Ruth Tune, Director of Housing at Tor Homes cut the silver ribbon at 11 a.m. to formally open the play space. The children and adults streamed in to have a marvellous time on the fantastic range of exciting play equipment, whilst also enjoying some home-made cakes, B-B-Q and some lively drumming with "Drum for Fun". Some of the children helped plant 5 fabulous new trees including Silver Birch; these will provide shade, autumn colour and lovely blossom from early spring.

We have so many organisations and people to thank for this brilliant additional new facility in Brixton forming another part to the Brixton Play Trail. On behalf of all Brixton residents and the wider community we owe a very big thank you to the following:

Community Spaces - who funded the Silverwood play space project through their nationwide programme. The Community Spaces Grants Programme is being managed by Groundwork UK as an Award Partner to the Big Lottery Fund. Community Spaces is part of the Big Lottery Fund¡¦s Changing Spaces Initiative and have funded the majority of this project to the tune of ¢G49,700.

Tor Homes - who also funded the project and have been instrumental in helping to organise and progress this project, with particular thanks to Rob Scholefield and Jane Randle for their hard work and dedication.

Brixton Community Association - for their support and assistance.

Brixton St Mary's Primary School - for their assistance with the naming of the play space and enthusiastic visits from the school children.

Drum for Fun¡¦ for their lively drumming.

Diane and Jackie for their delicious cakes at the opening.

And finally, to all the members of the Friends of Brixton Play Spaces team for a fantastic job in helping this project to create two amazing play spaces for Brixton. We plan to hold another event in the spring at Silverwood Play Space to really help put it on the map as part of the village play trail.

Keep a look out in the magazine and here for more information.

Please remember that both Silverwood and BrixStix play spaces are open to everyone in the village and our wider community.
